Seeing shit like this pisses me off. I hope they put this shitbag away for life.

Kinja'd!!!

Prior to the crash, two witnesses in a vehicle following behind the pickup truck recorded a 14-minute-long video of the motion of the pickup truck. The video ended just prior to the truck entering the curve where the crash occurred. The video shows the pickup departing the northbound travel lane to the east, crossing over the solid white edge line 37 times , and entering the grass roadside at least five times . The video also shows the pickup truck also departing the northbound travel lane to the west, crossing over the double yellow centerline into the opposite lane of travel 19 times , and at one point traveling completely onto the wrong side of the road prior to the crash. NTSB’s initial review of the video indicates that the speed of the pickup truck remained relatively constant throughout the 14 minutes, at about 67 to 71 mph. The witnesses called the local Sheriff to report the pickup truck, and law enforcement was in route at the time of the crash.

After the crash the pickup driver told the witnesses and the police that he had been texting. He also provided a statement during an NTSB interview that he was checking his phone for a text when the accident occurred. The NTSB has subpoenaed the driver’s cell phone records from his service provider and will review them over the coming weeks. The driver also told NTSB investigators he had been taking prescription medications prior to the crash. Several of those medications, as well as marijuana, were found in the pickup truck at the scene of the crash. Toxicology test results are pending.

Also, having a 70mph speed limit on that type of road seems a but excessive.

But still, fuck that guy, give him the chair.

I think the drugs played more of a role, not that it ultimately matters.

We really need to pass a law for roadside executions.

If you are found at fault in an accident where you were texting/drunk/high and kill someone.  The responding officer should just shoot you and roll you down the embankment.

You failed to mention the body count at all. 13 fatalities. 12 passengers, 1 driver. Only one passenger on that bus-van survived, with serious injuries.

This is America, you don’t have to commit a crime to get executed in the street by a cop.

Let’s see the “justice system” fuck this one up.  Given the location, it is almost a certainty.

You said 70mph, and I thought, that looks like TX. Yup. There are stretches of road like that in TX that are 75. A few years ago, I was driving up to Abilene on roads very similar to this and was following a car that was weaving all over the road. He finally put two wheels off the right side, overcorrected, and ground looped it across two lanes of oncoming traffic. He was fine, but the car was a mess. I stopped to give a report, and the cop said that he was texting. He was also working for a car dealership, and was delivering the car to a customer at the time. Oops.

I have property just North of there... Leakey. I have driven this stretch of road between Leakey and Uvalde countless times (closest HEB and Wally world) . It is 70 with drops to 35 in the windy bits, most people don’t slow down.

Honestly, the dude was LIT and texting just compounded.

These roads are also known for motorcycle wrecks weekly and a couple of deaths monthly.

I appreciate those high speed limits when driving across the expanses of Texas. But I drive sober and don’t text. Some of these roads are simply posted too fast. Not that these people would obey the limit, though,.

What a fucking catastrophe. This guy is going to see a lot of prison time, I hope.

I wonder if Texas has ever handed capital punishment for traffic fatalities on this scale. Not that I’m calling for that , but god damn some people will be looking for blood.

And the pickup driver is one of two to live.

The prick probably won’t even learn anything from it. He’ll protest he didn’t mean it and never been in an accident before while texting, etc...

Chances are he’ll get bailed and likely even be driving while he’s awaiting court (whether he’s banned or not).

Sounds like a realistic limit .  I tried to do that once, how people regularly do it and think it’s ok is baffling.

Yep, those 75mph roads are helpful, but the closing speeds on traffic entering/exiting the road can be very scary.

“ The driver also told NTSB investigators he had been taking prescription medications prior to the crash. Several of those medications, as well as marijuana, were found in the pickup truck at the scene of the crash.”

He said he was on medication, and also had marijuana on his person which apparently is not perscribed. So he TOOK drugs that day, and HAD more drugs ... Suggesting he was ON drugs doesn’t seem like I reach but sure let's reserve judgment

Looks like a 70 mph road to me. Nice wide shoulders, not much in the way of curves... It is in Texas after all. But yeah, my current job gives me some exposure to what happens on our highways, and the people who die  almost never are the people at fault. It really makes you think about your actions on the road, for sure. Everyone gets away with shit until they don't.

I think that’s a lot of speculation though. Prescription medications could’ve been anything, any dosage, any strength, any time that day. It could’ve been prescription hayfever medication for instance, a prescription skin cream maybe.

And having marijuana in the car means literally nothing if he’s not high. Spec ul ation.

Test might reveal he was high as balls, or not. We don’t know yet - that’s why they’re doing a test :)
